About Redfish Lake in Stanley, Idaho

Redfish Lake is a beautiful alpine lake nestled in the heart of the Sawtooth Mountains. The surrounding area is full of hiking and biking trails, so it's the perfect place to come if you're looking to explore Idaho's great outdoors. With overnight camping and cabins also available, it's a great weekend getaway from the Wood River Valley, while also being close enough for a day trip on a lazy summer afternoon. Make sure to pack some snacks or go in for a quick stop at the Redfish Lake general store before setting out for a day on the water.

Things to Do at Redfish Lake

If you're looking to relax, there's no better place than Redfish Lake. With its sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters, it's the perfect spot to soak up some sun and enjoy the incredible views. If you're feeling a little more adventurous, there are plenty of things to do as well. Nearby hiking and walking trails give you a chance to stretch your legs while canoe and kayak rentals let you stay close to the main lodge while still exploring the lake at your own pace.

Hiking

There are trails for all levels of hikers surrounding Redfish Lake, from short and easy trips to all-day excursions. From the Redfish Inlet Trailhead to Bench Lakes, Fishhook Creek, Iron Creek, and more, each of these routes provides a fun way to enjoy the area and take in the gorgeous Stanley Basin views. But make sure to be prepared! Depending on the location, you might want to bring bear spray. Keep an eye out for markers and signs when you get to the trailhead for any important advisories.

Horseback riding

Just a few minutes from the main lodge, you can explore the mountains by horseback thanks to Redfish Lake Corrals. Since 1969, Redfish Lake Corrals has been offering family-friendly, guided scenic horseback rides through the breathtaking Sawtooth Wilderness. Starting at $59 per person ($54 for kids), the stable offers a minimum 1-hour ride where guests can enjoy a peaceful ride through mountain meadows and lodgepole pine forests. All-day rides are also available, including lunch and hiking and fishing activities.

Swimming & Paddle Boarding

One of the most popular things to do at Redfish Lake is swimming! The water is refreshing and there are plenty of sandy beaches to relax on. Paddle boarding and canoeing are also great ways to enjoy the lake while getting a little exercise in. If you don't have your own equipment, don't worry—rentals are available right at the main lodge. Just make sure to wear your sunscreen!

Boat Rentals

Looking to explore the lake at your own pace? Rent a boat! Redfish Lake Marina offers pontoon, rowboat, canoe, and kayak rentals by the hour or day. Or, for those who really want to relax, they offer a sunset appetizer cruise with food prepared from the lodge's popular Limbert's restaurant.

Live Music

Every Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday night during the summer, Redfish Lake hosts live music on the front lawn of the main lodge. These free concerts are a great way to spend an evening with friends or family, enjoying the views and listening to some great live music. Grab an ice cream or cold drink from the snack shack located just behind the stage, snag a picnic table or a pair of seats on the front porch, and enjoy a night of entertainment from great artists.
